The core in earth science, is the innermost
part of the Earth. It is divided into an
inner core, the upper boundary of
which is 1,700km (1,060 miles) from the
centre, and an outer core, 1,820km
(1,130 miles thick). Both parts are thought
to consist of iron nickel alloy, with the
inner core being solid and the outer core
being semi-solid.
